Spring Training

Well it’s that time again, when cherry blossoms are flowering and spring has sprung and race season approaches quickly and reminds me to get it together and go play outside. If you’re me, it’s also the season to go see your physiotherapist because your body hurts. So that’s what I’m up to this week. Physio, training, and working. It’s a good life! I’ve been running with a knee brace and that has been SO helpful! No knee pain this week, but my SI joints are terribly out of whack. Can’t wait for physio! Here’s a few photos from the other day when my sister and I went adventuring!!

Of supplements and joint pain

I would like some new knees please. Mine hurt me! Running has been not my friend lately, as I throw myself into spring training. The older I get, the more I realize that my parents are right and I do indeed need to take care of my body. I’m still working on that. Lots of glutamine, rest, and a few other helpful products save my life on a regular basis. Glutamine might actually be my best friend, in case you aren’t aware, it’s an amino acid that aids in recovery and muscle building. Absolutely crucial for any and all athletes out there, in my opinion. I also have a near obsessive rate of consumption of Greens Plus Extra Energy in Cappucino flavor. They pack vitamins, minerals, caffeine, chlorophyll and who knows what else in there and it really helps me. I am notorious for constantly having one on the go at work. Mmmmmmmm.

I’m just going to go ahead and throw this out there. Horse products are way more awesome than people products. I worship at the temple of Mane n Tail because they created MINERAL ICE. Which is probably the best product ever. We use it on our hunter/jumper horses before we wrap their legs after shows or beach rides and one day I put some on my sore back. Sweet relief! Its icy and magical and makes sore muscles dissapear! I put it on everything from my back to my hamstrings to my knees. I also feel better about using it on myself because it’s made for horses so it’s not as full of crazy stuff as people products, plus it’s far more affordable than some of the human alternatives. Everyone I have given this product to has become hooked!

The other product I’m looking into getting was recommended to me by another rider, and she swears by hers. Back on Track is the company and they make amazing wraps and blankets and whatnot that have ceramic powder fused into the fibers. These products help increase circulation and blood flow and actually use your body’s heat and reflect it back as infrared heat, which helps to heal injuries. I think my knee would really love one so I’m going to get myself a present! I’ll let you know how it goes!!

Other things that I swear by in my diet: fish oils, vitamin c, WATER, carrots, glucosamine, vitamin d, iron, spinach, blueberries, coconut yogurt, fruit juice, sleep, lemons and green tea!

Still cold!

So today my sister and I had an adventure. In case you are not aware, Alana is a magical and very talented graphic designer. You can check out her work here . In case you’ve never been relate to a graphic designer before, its pretty awesome. She pretty much has brilliant ideas and tells me to do things and takes pictures and video of me doing those things. Today we made a triathlon video. I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but it’s going to be so cool. It definitely involved me jumping into Thetis Lake and swimming around. Let me tell you, it was so so cold. But worth it in the end. So I will have some stills and footage to share at some point in the future as soon as editing is done! Very exciting stuff.
Also, it’s April now, which means I need to get serious or I’m going to drown when I try to race. Cranking the running up to 3 a week, two short ones and one long one. Obviously right now they’re all 10ks and then soon the third one will start being longer. Yay! So much fun! One of my friends who is running Tough Mudder with me has been training lots with me so he’s my new running companion. It’s good to have friends!!

Have a magical day!!

Mudder

Well hello!! If you’re here it means you’ve made it over to the new site from the old blog! Welcome! I hope you like it here as much as I do!

Race season is fast approaching! My first little race will be the Times Colonist 10k for which I’m part of a fun little race team of co-workers and friends from downtown. After that it’s non stop through the summer. One race I’m getting really excited about is Tough Mudder!! In case you don’t know, TM is a 12 mile run with 25 obstacles designed by the British Special Forces. It’s pretty much the toughest event on the planet. I can’t wait!! There’s so many crazy obstacles, hay bales on fire, electrically charged hanging strips, mud pits with barbed wire above them….the list goes on! June 24th!! It’s happening in Whistler and I’ll be a part of it!!
